Compliance and Fraud Prevention

1. Global Compliance Overview

Safeguarding corporate assets, verifying identity structures, and securing business transaction data is Calen's absolute priority. Every cross-border payment, payroll run, and multi-currency accounting workflow that passes through our platform sits behind a compliance architecture built for the scale and sophistication of modern financial crime.

That architecture starts with our regulatory footprint. Calen Payments Ltd is registered with the Financial Transactions and Reports Analysis Centre of Canada as a Foreign Money Services Business, is subject to the Retail Payment Activities Act, and is registered with the Bank of Canada as a Payment Service Provider. Calen Payments Inc is registered federally with the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network in the United States as a Money Services Business. Calen is a financial technology company, not a bank, and every Virtual Account, currency conversion, and settlement instruction on our platform is cleared through our underlying licensed partner networks, whose own regulatory obligations sit on top of ours.

This page explains the fraud risks that matter most to a corporate finance team, the specific protections we build into the platform to counter them, and the practical steps your team can take to keep your account secure.

2. Common Corporate and B2B Fraud Types

The fraud patterns that target businesses look different from the ones that target individual consumers. Here is what we see most often, and what to watch for.

  • Corporate Identity Theft: Fraudsters manipulating business registry documentation or altering shareholder files in an attempt to gain unauthorized entry to your Calen dashboard.
  • Business Email Compromise and Fake Beneficiary Scams: Impersonation of a trusted international vendor or supplier, used to redirect a genuine invoice payment to unauthorized bank details.
  • Invoice Interception and Phishing: Fake communications designed to look like an alert from Calen's own treasury desk, sent to harvest an employee's dashboard login credentials.
  • Money Mule and Layering Exploits: Attempts by third parties to use a business's multi-currency wallets to route or layer illicit capital across payment corridors without the business's knowledge.

3. How Calen Protects Your Operational Transfers

We build protection directly into the software layer your team uses every day, not just into a policy document.

  • Embedded Multi-Agent Screening: Our specialized software agents autonomously parse incoming payment payloads, run real-time sanctions checks, and screen every transaction against global watchlists before any capital moves.
  • Real-Time Transaction Monitoring: Continuous analysis of your account's activity flags unusual volume spikes, velocity anomalies, and erratic multi-currency swap behavior for immediate review.
  • Advanced Corporate KYB: Thorough Know Your Business verification validates entity legitimacy, director registries, and the identity of ultimate beneficial owners holding more than twenty percent equity.
  • Secure Encrypted Infrastructure: Data protection controls isolate our internal systems from one another and keep transaction histories encrypted at rest and in transit.

4. Client Account Security and Mandatory Protocols

A secure platform still depends on secure habits inside your own finance team. Follow these protocols on every account.

  • Verify Before Execution: Always use our invoicing engine to cross-match supplier details before approving a cross-border wire payload.
  • Protect Portal Credentials: Never share employee dashboard logins, and enforce mandatory dual-factor authentication across every active corporate seat.
  • Stick to Verified Channels: Only act on communications sent through your official Calen dashboard or from a verified calen.finance email address.

Calen compliance officers will never contact you through an unofficial phone number, and will never ask you for your full platform password, an encryption key, or a change to a destination wallet in order to resolve a technical system issue. If you receive a request like this claiming to be from Calen, treat it as fraudulent and do not act on it.

5. Report a Suspicious Activity

If you suspect that your account has been targeted, that a payment has been redirected fraudulently, or you notice any unusual activity on your workspace, report it to our specialized monitoring desk immediately at compliance@calen.finance. Include your company name, the Virtual Account or transaction affected, and as much detail as you can about what you observed. Our compliance team investigates every report and will contact you directly with next steps.
